Dubrovnik Walled City
Dubrovnik is on the Adriatic Sea in southern Croatia. Its biggest claim to fame among tourists is the walled Old Town, dating from the 16th century.
As a point of history, Dubrovnik was continually shelled for seven months by Serbian and Montenegrin soldiers from the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) and suffered significant damage. The city emerged triumphant after much restoration, and is now one of the most popular tourist destination in the Mediterranean.
In this photograph, the bell tower stands tall and proud. It dates back to the 15th century. This “new tower” replaced the one built in 1385.
Dubrovnik has been a World Heritage Sites since 1979.
