Stone Town, Zanzibar
Ah, Stone Town, Zanzibar. Exotic, mysterious, dark, maybe a little scary, the smell of spices, chai. Early morning Christian church bells vying with the Muslim Call to Prayer music. Crumbling buildings. Former home of my idol, Freddie Mercury. It's called Stone Town for a reason. Take a look and you'll figure it out.
It was an exciting visit to the past mixed with the present. Ah, what I could've done with a digital camera back then. This is a scan of a film print with a whole lot of recovery work done to it. Alas for no DSLR at the time.....
Stone Town is on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites: #S6 9 47.016 E39 11 21.012
