Spider Lily Pop
I ALWAYS think of my mother when I see this flower.
These spider lilies had been uprooted by heavy machinery clearing a lot for my parents’ house over 50 years ago. The bulbs somehow scattered throughout the new yard and each summer they popped up as individual flowers here and there all over the. They hold special significance for me because my mother died a few months after I took this picture. I hope the people who bought her house enjoy the spider lilies every year.
Lycoris radiate (aptly named) is in the family Amaryllidaceae and is also known as red spider lily, red magic lily, or equinox flower, resurrection lily, and hurricane lily.
