A Sketchy Wire-Tailed Swallow
The wire-tailed swallow (Hirundo smithii) is a small passerine bird in the swallow family. This bird is found in open country near water and human habitation. Wire-tailed swallows are fast flyers and they generally feed on insects, especially flies, while airborne.
This little fellow had a nest on the underside of a pontoon boat that took us onto the river for sunset. When we stopped, which was often, he'd come out to his perch on the pontoon, periodically flitting out to grab a flying insect, deliver it to the babies under the boat, then back to the pontoon to watch for more prey. He chittered the entire time and was not one bit worried about the 9 humans close on the boat!
