Flagler College, St Augustine
This was my first view of Flagler College in St Augustine, Florida. My first thought was that it was a luxury hotel and boy, wouldn't I want to stay there amongst all that Spanish architecture and lush law.
But it's not a hotel. It's a private four-year liberal arts college. Founded in 1968, the school is located on 19 acres, constructed around the old Ponce de León Hotel. The hotel was built in 1888 as a luxury hotel. The architects were John Carrere and Thomas Hastings, working for Henry Morrison Flagler, the industrialist, oil magnate and railroad pioneer. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The college worked towards renovating the hotel and now leads tours through it.
Later, there will be pictures in my gallery of the hotel as it is now,.
