St. Augustine Distillery in St. Augustine, Florida
One of the fun and necessary stops on your tour of St. Augustine, Florida, is the craft spirits distillery. Of course, there's a tour with plenty of tastings! But to stay safe on your tour, take the trolley -- the police station is right across the street. What's up with that?
The building is actually a restored ice plant. The Historic FP&L Ice Plant was built as part of St. Augustine’s first power and ice complex in 1907. The Ice Plant is on the National Register of Historic Places and was the first of its kind to make commercial block ice in Florida over 100 years ago.
A group of locals had a dream of distilling super premium, small batch craft spirits to the community. They brought in some some of the world’s best distilling experts and, using locally grown sugar cane, wheat, corn, and citrus, consider that they are developing some of the finest quality spirits in the world. Go and judge for yourself. I was pretty happy!
