Amaryllis in Black and White
The amaryllis is typically a large, vibrant flower. It grows from a bulb and blooms in early Spring in the southeast United States. Amaryllis is a bulbous plant, with each bulb being 2.0 to 3.9 inches in diameter. It has several strap-shaped, green leaves, 12 to 20 inches long and 0.79 to 1.18 inches broad, arranged in two rows.
Each bulb produces one or two leafless stems 30 to 60 cm tall, each of which bears a cluster of two to twelve funnel-shaped flowers at their tops. Each flower is 2.4 to 3.9 inches diameter with six tepals (three outer sepals, three inner petals, with similar appearance to each other). The usual color is white with crimson veins, but pink, red, or purple also occur naturally. (Info from Wikipedia)
