The Eating Machine called a Hippo
This good-looking fella (we’ll assume it’s a fella) is truly an eating machine. The hippo spends most of its waking hours eating. No surprise that the average weight of an adult hippo is 3,000 pounds, third in the line for largest mammal on earth (behind the elephant and rhino). Luckily it only gets rid of all that food in the water!!
The hippo is herbivorous (eats plant life), but, despite that, kills more humans in Africa than any other animal except for the mosquito. This is because not only are they ill-tempered, they are very territorial.
I took this photo from a boat on the Chobe River in northern Botswana.
