While I spent a week on a tall ship out of Camden, Maine, we used this skiff to go ashore. There was a complicated system of ropes (lines) that allowed the skiff to go totally up on the rocky shore to let us get out on relatively dry land. Then it would be taken back out into deeper water offshore to avoid being damaged by the wave action while sitting on the rocks.
