I found this pigeon walking around in the grass area around the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St. Augustine, Florida. Unlike many pigeons/doves, this one was very iridescent and colorful, which is what caught my attention in the bright noon Florida sun. AND it didn't seem to care that I stalked it to get my picture!
The rock dove or rock pigeon (Columba livia) is a member of the bird family Columbidae (doves and pigeons). It's often simply referred to as the "pigeon".
NOTE: I may not have the name right on this - if I need correcting, please tell me!
