Statue Of Weeping Woman, Lafayette Cemetery, New Orleans in Black and White
This statue is in the Lafayette Cemetery in New Orleans, barefoot, weeping, and holding an urn. The weeping woman is a common funerary symbol, and it represents maternal love, grief, sorrow. Her bare feet represent humility and the inevitability of death. The urn, which has represented the ashes of the deceased since ancient times is a symbol of the death of the earthly body and its return to dust.
I positioned myself so that I could catch the sun peeking over a crypt across the path and reduced my aperture to f22 to capture the rays. The color on her robe and head is a result of the sun rays, and not because of any color I added to the photo. I was awestruck when I saw my picture on the computer because I had no idea it would result in this, with the bokeh and color. It definitely did not look like this to my human eye--but my camera and lens captured it. My edits were black and white conversion, denoise, detail, some dodge and burn.
